What to Pack for a Charleston Weekend, by Julia Berolzheimer
This upcoming spring season is my favorite time to be in Charleston. We have an unseasonably warm spring, with temperatures starting to rise in early March, many blooms popping open, and so much sunshine. We try and spend as much time outdoors as possible since just a few months down the road the heat, humidity and bugs will push us more indoors. My top pieces to pack are focused on walking around to see our beautiful city, enjoying the parks, beaches, history, and so much more.
This is a very walking-friendly city! I have on my sneakers 90% of the time. I wear my Veja sneakers almost daily since becoming a mom.
2. A tote that can double as a beach bag
We are always heading out to Sullivan's Island at the end of a beautiful day to catch the sunset. I'm usually carrying around some sort of tote, like this Pamela Munson one, since it's a catch-all for everything.
3. Easy Dresses
I love an effortless dress I can wear with sneakers and then switch to heels for dinner. I've had my eye on this one from a local favorite boutique, Hampden Clothing.
4. Swimsuit
Since you're most likely going to want to head to the beach, don't forget your swimsuit. My favorite brand this season is Agua by Agua Bendita.
5. Layers
A spring day can feel warm and amazing, but once the sun goes down, so does the temperature. I always carry a cardigan with me to throw on towards the end of the day. These hand-embroidered ones by Fanm Mon are my favorite right now.
6. Mask
The most important travel accessory right now is a mask, and I've purchased almost all of mine from Fallon. I love their vintage chintz prints.
7. A Sunhat
If you do catch yourself outside for the day, I'd make sure to have some sort of hat or sun protection. My newest favorite brand is Sarah Bray Bermuda.
8. Pjs
I never travel anywhere without packing a few sets of my favorite Lake Pajamas. They have a store on King St that's a must to check out!
9. A Chic Weekender Bag.
I can fit everything for a long weekend in this Neely & Chloe Bag. I've had their solid canvas one for years. We are launching a collection together on March 3, and took their bestselling sample and gave it a JB spin.
10. Go-to jeans
If I'm not wearing a dress, then you'll most likely find me in my favorite jeans. I'll wear these with a simple white tee and sneakers–I'll throw on that chic cardigan if I need to!
